Ramblin' Jimmie Dolan was said to be a true native son of the Golden West. When he was just 14, he decided he wanted to be a singing cowboy and enrolled in a mail order guitar instructional course. He later was performing on radio station KWK out of St. Louis, Missouri and was there until he enlisted with the US Navy. He served as a radioman for five years in the armed forces. He also got to entertain the troops at numerous bases in the South Pacific during his hitch. When he was discharged from the armed forces after the war, he decided to make Los Angeles, CA his home. He recorded for Capitol Records for a time. His first record was "Tennessee Baby" b/w "Goodbye My One and Only"; it was released in 1949. He also had hits with tunes such as "It Had To Come Someday", "I'll Sail My Ship Alone", "Who's Kiddin' Who", "Hot Rod Race", and "I'll Make Believe". While on the west coast, he played the various nightclubs with is band (we don't know the name, if any, of his band) in Southern California and was billing himself as "America's Cowboy Troubador". He was about 5'10" and about 170 pounds back then. His other interests were said to include swimming and boxing.
