'Rockabilly/ Fifties Rock n' Roll Experience' concert to be performed April 30 at Capitol Theatre

02-04-2009

The Capitol Theatre is pleased to announce that a definitive "Rockabilly/ Fifties Rock n' Roll Experience" concert will be performed on Thursday, April 30, featuring Jerry Naylor, former lead singer of the Buddy Holly Crickets, and Stan Perkins, son of Rockabilly/ Fifties Rock and Roll Legend, Carl Perkins.

This unique concert experience, "The Rockabilly Legends: A Tribute to My Friends," will reveal the historic birth of Rockabilly/ Fifties Rock and Roll music with tributes to Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis and Buddy Holly. Naylor and Perkins will be supported by the Rockabilly Legends Band and the Solid Rock Singers. The performance will close with a special tribute to Buddy Holly, who Naylor replaced as lead singer of The Crickets after Holly's death in 1959.

Jerry Naylor began his career performing with these legends, and is the creator, writer and producer of "The Rockabilly Legends: They Called it Rockabilly Long Before They Called it Rock and Roll" book and documentary which is currently being broadcast on the PBS Television Network. Hal Leonard Publishing has published Naylor's book now in global distribution. Naylor is a Grammy nominated singer as well as a member of the West Texas Music Hall of Fame (since 1998) and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame (since 2000).

Stan Perkins is the son of Rockabilly legend Carl Perkins, who in 1956 wrote and recorded the first Rockabilly/ Fifties Rock and Roll million-selling record, "Blue Suede Shoes," recognized as the original foundational recording defining Rock and Roll. Carl Perkins was one of the first inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Stan grew up performing his father's classic rock and roll music, and played drums with the Carl Perkins band for 22 years, traveling the world on concert tours.

All profits benefit the Rockabilly Legends Foundation that provides scholarships and funding for music curriculum in our colleges and universities.
