Summertime Blues (May 1958) 50th Anniversary
May 1958: EDDIE COCHRAN records Summertime Blues, Love Again and Lonely at Goldstar Studios in Hollywood, with Earl Palmer on drums and Guybo on bass.
In his liner notes of "The 25th Anniversary Album", Adam Komorowski dates "Summertime Blues" on March 28, 1958, but almost all other sources claim that it was recorded in May, including the box set disco- graphy by Derek Glenister and Darrel Higham's book.
And who did the handclapping? Sharon Sheeley has claimed that she and Jerry Capehart added handclaps on another mike across the studio.
Capehart says handclappers were himself, Cochran and Smith.
Derek Glenister writes that the handclapping is probably by Sheeley and Capehart, and Higham/Mundy write that Eddie did all guitar parts and added the handclaps afterwards.
Summertime Blues / Love Again was released on June 11, 1958, on Liberty 55144.
"Lonely" got a UK release as the B-side of "Sweetie Pie", not long after Eddie's death.
"Lonely" and "Love Again" were overdubbed with a chorus in 1960/61 by Snuff Garrett for the "Never To Be Forgotten" album.
