While being a member of the Lewis family may open doors from time to time, the pressure to deliver is that much greater. Linda Gail Lewis has proven she’s a force to be reckoned with every time she’s graced the stage and leaves the crowd exhausted and begging for more. Only the 88 piano keys are happy the performance is over after the fiery workout they are put through during the set. Her brother’s (Jerry Lee Lewis) influence is unmistakable but she has carved out her own niche over the years also citing artists like Wanda Jackson and others as an influence. In addition to her own stellar solo projects, she released a critically acclaimed project with Van Morrison in 2000.
In February this year, she made the journey to Lancaster, PA with her now son-in-law Danny B. Harvey and daughter Annie Marie Lewis for 3 intense days of recording her first project for Lanark Records with Quentin Jones handling the producer duties. Quentin has made a name for himself producing artists like Charlie Gracie, Robert Gordon, The Rockats and a score of others as well as the chief songwriter and guitarist for The Reach Around Rodeo Clowns. Linda was introduced to Quentin by Danny B. Harvey who had worked with him in the past. The chance to work with the “Queen Of The Pumpin’ Piano” was a dream for Jones. “Real”, Quentin kept repeating. “Linda Gail Lewis is the real deal. We hearkened back to the days of recording real people, using real interments. Everybody was rockin’ at the same time in the same room and the energy was contagious. This is how it’s supposed to be done!” Hard Rockin’ Woman releases on September 18th.
Tracks include a variant of the title cut “Hard Rockin’ Man” and high energy rockers like the cover of her brother’s “Rocking My Life Away”, “Battle With The Bottle”, “Sure Does Help” (both written by Jones), 2 instrumentals written by Harvey (“Little Baby Rock” and “Linda Gail Blues”) and a show stopping closer written by Linda Gail titled “Heartbreak Highway”.
Besides Linda’s amazing vocals and piano, Danny B. Harvey can be heard on guitar and bass as well as producer Quentin Jones trading off on guitar and bass. Blair King holds down the beat on drums and Annie Marie Lewis adds harmony vocals and lead on “Spell Bound”.
