- Here's the most complete discography ever about Walter Roost's legendary band The Hula Hawaiians from Basel, Switzerland! The Hula Hawaiians were an extraordinary Hawaii-band like there was no 2nd one. Their repetoire contained something for everybody: They would mix classic Hawaii standarts with guitar boogies, rock "n" roll, country and western, charleston.. and they would add some clever novelties in between their sets! They could do some slow gutsy crooners (like Only You by the Platters) as well as some absolutely amazing and masterfully played uptempo numbers too. Their very private Hula Club in Basel was just closed last year, after the unfortunate death of their bandleader Walti Roost.
As it turns out: The Hula Hawaiians 1957 recording of "The Chimpanzee Rock" rates amongst thee ultimate BEST rock "n" roll instrumentals in world. Try to name a 50s rock "n" roll instrumental from the U.S. that is as fast and skillfull played as this! Rockabilly fans will love the fabulous sound of The Chimpanzee Rock, and some of the other Hula Hawaiians tracks like The Hula Boogie. They've also played the best version ever of Guitar Boogie by Arthur Smith. http://homepage.swissonline.ch/featheredapple/hulahawaiians.html | |
