Hank Williams film makes debut in NashvillePosted on April 19, 2011 by Heather Byrd Making a movie isn’t easy, especially when you’re working on a period piece with a tight budget and
the star of the film must portray a musical legend. Such is the case with The Last Ride, which made
its world debut Friday at the Nashville Film Festival. The film focuses on the curious final days of Hank
Williams, played by Henry Thomas, and his friendship with the young man hired to drive him across
the country, played by Jesse James.
Despite the challenges, The Last Ride has already garnered some distinguished kudos.
“We tried to do what we thought would have been an accurate representation and … I think that’s
what we did,” said director Harry Thomason. “We already have a deal with Fox, but Harvey
Weinstein (co-founder of Miramax Films) called because he’s a friend of a very famous friend of mine
and they looked at the picture together. He said, ‘I think you got two of the finest performances out
of actors I have ever seen in a film.’ I take that as high praise because he has no ownership in the film.”
See for yourself when The Last Ride screens again at noon Wednesday, April 20 at Regal Green Hills
Stadium 16. For more information, visit NashvilleFilmFestival.org.
