Deke Dickerson - Feelin' Low
Feelin' Low original recorded for Sun Records back in 1956 by Ernie Chaffin. A rockabilly performer with a mile-wide country streak, Ernie Chaffin was one of the few Sun artists from the golden era to have recorded before he went to Sun. Born in 1928 in Northern Mississippi, he traveled to the Gulf coast as a teenager to get his start in the music business. By 1956, he had found his way to 706 Union Avenue in Memphis. But despite pressure from label owner Sam Phillips, Jack Clement and Bill Justis, Chaffin was never into real rockabilly. What he did find was a country sound so unique and starkly beautiful that Sam Phillips -- a big fan of originality -- had no choice but to let Ernie Chaffin go his own way in the studio. Chaffin's first two records for Sun are as haunting and unusual as anything recorded for the label. Nothing sounds like them -- before or since. However, Deke's version is also a one of a kind. As always. The real deal. Just sit back and listen...
