Along about 1953, Al Terry was entertaining folks over radio station KVOL in Lafayette, Louisiana. Al was in high school when he formed his first band. Later, he moved to Beaumont, Texas they said to learn the radio business with KRIC. He came back to Lafayette and KVOL. Then in 1946, Al found himself in New York and met an idol of his, Red Foley. Mr. Foley liked what he heard in Al and gave him some advice to take back with him to Lafayette. It was during his stay in New York that he wrote a tune called "I Guess I'll Have To Face It" that he later recorded. About a year later, Al was in Houston to record some tunes; among them were "If You Want A Broken Heart", "I'll Be Glad When I'm Free". Al had done stage shows with other hillbilly acts as Bill "Cowboy Rambler" Boyd, Wesley Tuttle, Cowboy Copas, Minnie Pearl, Ray Whitley, Tex Ritter, Pee Wee King and Redd Stewart.
